M7 - Downtown Tempe Conference Center Plans Move Forward

Bullish on Downtown Tempe, a Las Vegas investor is moving forward with plans for building the city's largest convention center, part of the 1.2 million-square foot M7 development on the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and Seventh Street. The development also will include a 200-foot tall hotel and two 300-foot-tall condo towers. Tempe Convention and Visitors' Bureau as well as city officials welcome the conference center, in part based on a recent study that called for 85,000 to 1000,00 square feet of additional conference space. Proximity to ASU, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and the Metro light-rail line also bolster the need for additional hotel and conference space that M7 will provide. The conference center is expected to break ground early next year.

Downtown Tempe Flour Mill - A New Urban Destination

The historic Hayden Flour Mill in Downtown Tempe will be converted by Avenue Communities into boutique retail and office space, as well as a small hotel. The mill, portions of which date back to 1874, will be preserved and incorporated into a modern composition of glass and steel.
Phase One: Retail and office space. Site work will begin in June 2008 with completion scheduled for summer 2009.
Phase Two: Convert the silo structure into a boutique hotel
Phase Three: Could include residential condominium units along Rio Salado.
South-Bank is the New Name for Downtown Tempe Town Lake's Pier 202

A Scottsdale developer, The Wolff Co., has renamed Pier 202 to South Bank. The site is south of Tempe Town Lake and north of Rio Salado Parkway, between Rural Road and McClintock Drive. Looking to make this project a world destination, they have been busy planning, looking for inspiration in Gramercy Park, Central Park and the South Bank in Australia.
The focal point will be the Tempe Town Lake waterfront. The pier will be a highly activated, programmed pier for performances, a detachable dock, and water taxis. The waterfront also will include a restaurant promenade, retail, rental and for-sale housing, office space, and hotel space.
Construction already has begun. Site work should be complete by the end of the year with vertical construction beginning in the third quarter of 2009.
